Furniture Rejuvenation
Some furniture just needs a little attention, not a trip to the dump. Dinah enjoys bringing tired, worn, and forgotten pieces back to life while preserving the character that makes them special. A little patience and elbow grease can make all the difference.
Three Generations
Dinah’s parents started housekeeping with this dresser in 1968. When her niece, Reid, was redoing her room several years ago, it needed a facelift. With a new finish and new hardware, it turned into a really neat piece for Reid’s room and it still holds sentimental value!
Checkers or Chess??
This table belonged to AbaGayle’s Pappaw. The top was faded and the polyurethane was flaking off. I repainted the checkerboard, refinished the base and legs, then covered it with several coats of poly. This is a one of a kind piece that was hand-built on an antique set of legs. It currently resides with Will & AbaGayle in their Man Cave.
Trash to Treasure
This little desk set came by way of Alex & Whitney, who found it on a “buy nothing” group in Durham. Alex texted and asked if I wanted a project and it was cold weather, so the answer was YES! She began as a dingy grey with file drawer fronts glued on. I repainted her, outlined the drawers and desktop then handpainted a floral design on the drawers and chair. The desktop required a bit of repair and I replaced all the hardware, including that holding the desktop. I found a complimentary fabric and recovered the seat as well. She now sits at a window in a bedroom in their home and Whitney uses it to work from home. That wasn’t necessarily the intention, but their housing situation changed and they saw it one weekend they were home and decided it was a perfect fit!
Back to Beautiful
This is a pair of Whitticomb nightstands Dinah found in an old homestead in Bastian, VA. They were black and covered in coal dirt and grime. They’ve been sanded down to their original color, the hardware cleaned, and the pieces cleaned and oiled. They currently reside on either side of Dinah’s bed (formerly the suite belonged to her grandparents and didn’t include nightstands).
